Blinking - Control It Or Show Your Worst

Thursday, January 31st, 2008

By H. Bernard Wechsler Ever become suddenly aware of your eyes blinking? When your eyes are blinking more than 30x per minute you are under excessive stress. Of course you are not counting blinks-per-minute but you instinctive know when it is out-of-sync. When you notice other people blinking a lot of eye-lashes flickering they often are lying through their ! Normal is 15 to 30 blinks per minute, and it is directly linked to our emotions.Excessive blinking interferes with your concentration reducing it up to 25%. Blinking is one of those things like blood pressure, heartbeat, and breathing that are invisible to us. When you become aware of your own or anothers blinking something serious is up. Pay attention. Weird Facts Mental patients go into blinking overdrive when the subject under discussion causes them anxiety or tenseness. Most folks blink around 20 closures per second when they are relaxed. Each blink lasts just one-quarter of a second. In the presidential election of 1996 Republican Bob Dole blinked an average of 147 times per minutes, Democrat Bill Clinton, just 99 times per minute. When the subject of teen drug use was discussed, Clinton blinked 117 times per minute. People who regularly appear on TV as professionals blink 31 to 50 times per minute, about twice their natural relaxed rate. We blink the fastest when face-to-face in a love relationship, speaking in public, and when lying. Call them Love Signals, Stranger-Anxiety-Deception. For those who must know where the feet grow from blinking is controlled by the brain area called Superior Colliculi. Nerve impulse travel from the vision center, and end up at the facial nerves motor muscles. The activating force is the neurotransmitter Dopamine, stimulating the RAS, Reticulating Activating System. When its your own fast-blinking stop and use one of your two-minute Behavioral Intelligence Strategies to relax your body and mind. When you are blinking your way through a test you are on the cusp of failure. Stop and take control. Blinking while taking to someone associated with a personal relationship career or romantic is a road sign that means - Stop! - Icy When Wet! - Danger-Ahead! Breathe-Stretch-Shake Let-it-Go! Whats a sure-fire strategy to stop wild-eyed blinking in its tracks? What works best is a triple-header of Breathe-Stretch-Shake Let-it-Go! - which takes no more than two-minutes. This strategy combines deep-breathing with stressbusting, muscle-release, and finishes with an anchor to knock-off heavy-blinking in the future. Do exactly what it says: deep-breathe, then stretch and extend your arms and legs, and shake your entire body like a dog after getting wet. Finally slap your hand on a flat-table and either aloud or silently emotionally repeat Let-it-go! Never focus your attention on the blinking movement itself it accelerates the anxiety. Focus on a new behavioral-strategy to send blinking back where it came from. Mantra A mantra is a Sanskrit word meaning protection through repetition.Repeat a mantra for even thirty- (30)-seconds, and you begin to physically and mentally relax. An EEG indicates our brainwaves move from Beta to Alpha, into relaxed-concentration. Any time you are stressed, including before giving a presentation, taking an interview, or testing close your eyes and deep-breathe, and repeat your mantra Shreem. In less than two-minutes you feel rested and raring-to-go. This mantra strategy also works to reduce excessive-blinking by 65% - merely by doing two-minutes of diaphragmatic-breathing using your mantra S-h-r-e-e-m. Heres How While inhaling - subvocalize the first-syllable of your Mantra S-h, by drawing-it-out during the inhalation. On exhaling, the second syllable R-e-e-m is expelled s-l-o-w-l-y. S-h-r-e-e-m is a powerful mantra for calming your monkey-mind, while adding up to 25% to your concentration-skills. Any time you are stressed, including before a presentation, taking an interview, or testing close your eyes, deep-breathe and repeat your mantra S-h-r-e-e-m. In less than two-minutes you feel rested, raring-to-go with a peak-performance. Conduct your own scientific research: whip-out your BIS two-minute-strategy when you require stressbusting and optimal-performance. Marriage: Detach With Love

Wednesday, January 30th, 2008

By Angie Lewis As we all know there are times in marriage when we need to detach from our spouse. It is far better to detach with love then to burst out with angry, destructive, or negative feelings. When we detach it gives us some time to think about the situation at length and then come back to our spouse with a satisfying solution. What happens when we dont detach? Often times we come on too harsh with our feelings. We dont think before we spew out emotional garbage onto our spouse. Feelings are great for expressing our selves but if we use destructive feelings to abuse or otherwise keep us from finding a solution to our marital issues then feelings become a problem. If we use impulsive and reckless feelings to dictate how we will treat our spouse it can become the way we decide to deal with all marital issues until it becomes a habitual way of behaving. If we let our feelings determine how we will love, we certainly wont be able to deal with issues appropriately. Unfortunately, many marriages are like this; couples literally feed off of the feelings of each other. But in reality destructive feelings starve the marriage of nutrients. For instance, your partners reaction to your reaction might trigger off a certain set of thoughtless feelings that have been played out before, but the issue never gets resolved, therefore it gets put on the backburner with all the rest of the garbage that didnt get fed properly. It takes spiritual effort on both sides to have an almost idyllic marriage we read about in storybooks. It takes spiritual effort to stay married! Instead of looking for reasons to leave the marriage, we can learn to detach with love, which takes the spiritual resolve that I am talking about. There is a difference between just detaching from our spouse and detaching WITH LOVE. Detaching with angry feelings and not caring about our spouse is detaching inappropriately. This is NOT the kind of detachment Im talking about. Detaching with love is considering our spouses feelings and accepting who they are. Sometimes it is just better to give up and give in rather than get in a messy and heated argument that isnt going anywhere anyway. It is at these times we can detach from our partner with love. When we do this we come away feeling better emotionally and spiritually. Detaching with love means to turn the other cheek. For instance if your spouse is not doing anything hostile to you or the marriage, often times turning the other cheek is the better way to go. Detaching in this way becomes a learned way of behavior, which is far better for your psyche. Instead of being the antagonist we have been we can learn to be more accepting, caring and loving. When you humble your self and turn the other cheek you will feel so much better about your self and about your spouse. Being humble and kind is not as hard as it seems. Especially when we see for our selves the positive results it will bring into the marriage! Detaching with love is being humble, forgiving, and accepting. Demonstrating all of these wonderful character traits is being loving towards the person we married. But in a heated battle with our spouse, angry words delete all of those traits from our mind and the angry words end up controlling our behavior. Remember, take it one day at a time, and dont look at it as if you have to be all of these things right now this minute. Just knowing when you might be using destructive feelings when dealing with marital issues is a big start to trying to be humble and kind through proper expression of self. Be completely humble and gentle; be patient, bearing with one another in love. Make every effort to keep the unity of the Spirit through the bond of peace. Ephesians 4:2-3 No marriage is ever perfect here on earth; it just isnt going to happen. But we can certainly enjoy the spouse we are married to by putting forth a little bit more effort. We must learn to accept our spouse and love our spouse in spite of their faults if we want to be satisfied in our marriage. When we see faults in our spouse that is when we should be gentle and kind and patient like scripture above says. Does you spouses actions or personality sometimes annoy you? Rather then dwelling on your spouses weakness or looking for faults, detach with love. If you continue being kind gentle and loving, you will see that you will want to spend more time with your spouse because you have LEARNED to accept them for who they are, faults and all.~~ Angie Lewis offers spiritual enlightenment tips for couples in marriage, and is the author of new release book JOURNEY ON THE ROADS LESS TRAVELED. If the Bible Says It, I Believe It, That Does It For Me - With Permission, Animals Can Talk!

Monday, January 28th, 2008

By Dennis Diehl You gotta admit, the Bible has some great stories in it. As a child I thought a lot about these stories wondering how they could happen, but since it was the Bible and written by God himself over a long weekend, I never thought they might not have happened. From a talking snake in the Garden of Eden, to a guy named Jonah who spent three days and three nights in the belly of a great fish, whew…it was all very cool stuff. I always pictured Jonah sitting in the fish’s stomach on a three legged stool swallowed earlier in the day, around a small fire that he built to sit around and think of just how he got into this mess. I loved imagining how it must have felt to get puked up on the shore, but never wondered how the whale got close enough to get him on the beach. I guess it was projectile vomiting or something like that on the part of the fish. You know, kinda like the guy shot out of a cannon. Anyway, great story and it was a reminder to me that if you are ever on a cruise, don’t piss off the crew, but was taught that it was a story about Jesus being in the tomb. Theologians call it the “Sign of Jonah,” which is either this story or the fact that Ninevah repented, depending on which Gospel you read. Too bad Jonah isn’t around today to make another trip to Iraq. He seems to have had a knack at getting people to change their evil ways. Ninevah. after all, is just across the river from Mosul in Iraq. Anyway, I always loved the talking animal stories. As a kid I would stare at my dog and ask him, when no one was looking of course, if he could talk and just choose not to? We had a lot of those stare downs where I was pretty sure that he could talk but was mocking me with his silence. I felt that when I turned my back on him, he stuck his tongue out at me and smiled like a human, just for a moment. If he had walked away, I might not have felt that way, but when I looked at him, he looked back and stared at me as long as I stared at him. I knew he was thinking about whether or not to spring a well formulated sentence on me and then never do it again, just so I would know he could. Be he held onto his secret throughout his entire life. But still I knew he could talk if he wanted to. Animals talked in the Bible after all so it can’t be a unique thing, just a less chosen option. Here is a great story that I thought was really really true. It’s about the false prophet, Balaam who was told to curse Israelites in their desert wanderings, but always ended up blessing them, or something like that. He went on to become a symbol of all that was evil in other parts of the book. But Balaam at least knew what I knew. Animals can talk and it is not something anyone should ever doubt. Balaam got up in the morning, saddled his donkey and went with the princes of Moab. But God was very angry when he went, and the angel of the LORD stood in the road to oppose him. Balaam was riding on his donkey, and his two servants were with him. When the donkey saw the angel of the LORD standing in the road with a drawn sword in his hand, she turned off the road into a field. Balaam beat her to get her back on the road. So here it is obvious that donkeys can pick up on the vibrational frequencies that Angels of the Lord wiggle at, but humans can’t. How cool is that! This explains to me why my cat can be calm one minute and then running all over the apartment looking up and down and then running to another place checking out the wall. That cat is seeing Angels of the Lord in my apartment and I am just thinking the cat is nuts. Also, the donkey was only doing what a donkey does well…preserving itself. As noted in Wikepedia. “Donkeys have a reputation for stubbornness, but this is due to some handlers’ misinterpretation of their highly-developed sense of self preservation. It is difficult to force or frighten a donkey into doing something it sees as contrary to its own best interest, as opposed to horses who are much more willing to, for example, go along a path with unsafe footing.” So we know the Donkey saw something. No doubt the Angel of the Lord! :) Then the angel of the LORD stood in a narrow path between two vineyards, with walls on both sides. When the donkey saw the angel of the LORD, she pressed close to the wall, crushing Balaam’s foot against it. So he beat her again. The Angel of the Lord must have been guarding like one would see in a basketball game. Sword and hands all over the place to keep that poor donkey terrified and in a position now to bash ‘ol Balaam foot and get bashed herself again as well. I say don’t ever bash a donkey, and certainly not a female one. Maybe it’s only the female one’s that can talk and will if you push them. Mr. Ed could talk and I believe he was male, so we can assume that being closely related to the donkey, male donkies could also talk. Then the angel of the LORD moved on ahead and stood in a narrow place where there was no room to turn, either to the right or to the left. When the donkey saw the angel of the LORD, she lay down under Balaam, and he was angry and beat her with his staff. This is going from bad to worse for sure and for the third and final time, this extra vibrational sensitive donkey gets a good bashing and then the camel dung hits the fan. “Then the LORD opened the donkey’s mouth, and she said to Balaam, Hey! poop for brains!” No just kidding, but this must have been my problem with my dog. The Lord had to open Buffy’s mouth to speak to me and I know he wanted to, but wasn’t getting permission from the Lord to do so, so at least we have cleared that childhood disappointment of mine up. The dog was not himself messing with me. He just had not permisison to speak. And she said to Balaam, “What have I done to you to make you beat me these three times?” Balaam answered the donkey, “You have made a fool of me! If I had a sword in my hand, I would kill you right now.” The donkey said to Balaam, “Am I not your own donkey, which you have always ridden, to this day? Have I been in the habit of doing this to you?” “No,” he said. Well there you have it. A talking donkey was no biggie to Balaam. He never seems to miss a beat when she starts having a chat with him about these bashings. I don’t know about you, but had my Cocker Spaniel really said anything to me, I would have run yelping and screaming into the house and never gone near that dog again! Well maybe later I would have gone back to ask, what did you say, but it would have be really scary waiting for another answer. Balaam just has a great conversation with the animal as if they had talked a few hours ago over breakfast. Then the LORD opened Balaam’s eyes, and he saw the angel of the LORD standing in the road with his sword drawn. So he bowed low and fell facedown. The angel of the LORD asked him, “Why have you beaten your donkey these three times? Oh well, because she wouldn’t move, bashed my foot against a stone wall and then collapsed. All I really was looking for was an easy ride on this really nice road, Balaam may have thought to himself. However, once your eyes are opened to that extra dimensional vibrational Angel of the Lord frequency, it is best to just say, Sorry. I have come here to oppose you because your path is a reckless one before me. The donkey saw me and turned away from me these three times. If she had not turned away, I would certainly have killed you by now, but I would have spared her.” Balaam said to the angel of the LORD, “I have sinned. I did not realize you were standing in the road to oppose me. Now if you are displeased, I will go back.” Numbers 22:21-35 (NIV) Well at least that explains this whole thing, Balaam might have been thinking but was wise not to say, although high frequency, extra dimentional Angel’s of the Lord know what you’re thinking too, so you can’t win. Evidently the only thing that saved Balaam from a good beheading was that the donkey could see the Angel. Now it doesn’t say that the Angel opened the eyes of the donkey, so we can assume that at least all donkies and probably all animals can see these things as a matter of fact and can talk. Sure explains a lot about cats. So Balaam is stuck between his talking donkey and a threatening Angel. There is nothing left to do but repent, which he does nicely. He does mention, much like we might to a police officer after being run into, that if he had seen the Angel coming too, he would have been more careful and respectful. So I personaly think if you don’t see the Angel and neither of your two servants see it, you are somewhat off the hook for the moment. As a minister we always kidded about how God could only get to Balaam by talking to him through his ass…Balaam’s not God’s…never mind. Well what’s the point? The point is that animals can talk…doi. The Bible tells me so. They just need permission. We can be assurred that when cat’s meow, dogs bark, snakes sssssssssssssssssss and donkeys bray, they are teasing us and playing with our sensibilities. I’m going to go and stare my cat right in the eyes now until he cracks and confesses that he has been able to talk all along. And when he asks, So, how did you finally catch on? I never really ever let on to you that I could talk. I will be able to say that the Bible betrayed him and all his friends, and things around the apartment will never quite be the same again. Basically-It’s Divorce

Sunday, January 27th, 2008

By Shane Woods After the long arguments and debates over divorce and after over millions of couples have dissolved their marriages, some might think that the proceedings are simpler nowadays. However it is, the whole process always remains to be a brutish, nasty and generally common to everyone. Divorce generally means the dissolution or end of marriage. It is a court judgment which requires legal grounds. A recent study concluded that wives usually initiate in almost 2/3 of all the cases every year. UK, in a yearly study pointed out certain causes why marriages end in divorce. The major causes are family stress (18%), extra marital affairs (27%), physical and emotional abuse (17%), addictions- in drugs, gambling and alcohol (6%), workaholism (6%) and mid life crisis (13%). The court presented the most common grounds for divorce which are: Abusive and cruel treatment. Mental abuse is not enough to be the ground for divorce; physical abuse acts can support this ground. For example, a spouse drinking can only be substantial if one can show that his/her health suffered due to drunkenness of his/her spouse. Desertion for over one year. The spouse left their marital home involuntarily or voluntarily and without any intentions of returning. Desertion can only be used as ground, if the spouse can present that he/she has no consent over his/her spouse’s departure. Inability to have sex or impotency but this ground is seldom used. Adultery which is sexual intercourse outside marriage. Adultery is a difficult ground because one really have to prove that his/her spouse is engaging in sexual intercourse with somebody else. Cruel refusal or gross negligence to support for a spouse. A spouse has neglected and refused to provide support. For this ground to be effective, one party must present that the neglect causes injury or harm to his/her life. Confirmed and gross habits of intoxication brought about by excessive use of opium, liquor or other drugs. The Penal Institution sentenced a spouse for imprisonment for five years or life. In the divorce proceedings, certain issues need to be settled, such as support, custody and visitation of children, division of assets and debts, support of spouse, change in name, etc. If the said issues are not yet resolved, the judge will decide on the case. To start with the process of divorce, you will have to file the pertinent documents and the Complaint for Divorce in the court. The complainant must arrange for a sheriff who will give the copy of complaint to the spouse; this method is called “service process”. Either party can request for temporary orders before a trial; he/she should also request for pre-trial, final hearing and the trial itself. Once your case is filed in the court, the length of trial will depend on several factors like: The grounds you’re presenting The length of time to find and serve the complaint to your spouse The accurateness and completeness of the documents you submitted The length of time each steps has accrued in the divorce process If the court is back logged or busy If your spouse disagrees or contests the divorce If there are negotiations or mediations in the process Couples undergoing divorce should also look into their children carefully. Children can greatly be affected of their parents’ divorce. Studies show that children of divorce are linked with cases such as crime, child abuse, poverty, smoking, educational problems, psychiatric, psychological, behavioral problems and even suicide. Divorce can get complicated if both parties will not agree thus more depressive and traumatic occurrences can take place. It can greatly involve not only the couples but the children as well. Counseling is a good way to start and it can help in smoothening the divorce proceedings. Divorce in general, is a painful process that can gradually become acceptable if both couples try to be open minded and cooperative. Hurricanes, Kids and Teens

Saturday, January 26th, 2008

By Lance Winslow Mandatory hurricane evacuations can be a living hell on families and the more kids and teens you have the more difficult it can become. Consider loading up all your kids into your SUV or minivan and spending 15 hours only to go 200 miles and then realizing that there are no hotel rooms within 1500 miles and the storm is 15 hours closer from when you started. Imagine doing all this under the stress that you know that when you come back your home may be destroyed and you have lost everything. Additionally, you personally may be able to handle it and know that your family is OK and safe and therefore you have not a worry or care, nevertheless you know that it will be psychologically traumatic for your family and especially the teens and your children. Many psychologists have done studies on the effect of hurricanes kids and teens after a large category hurricane and they have found that many of the kids and teens are quite a bit tougher than you might think. If you are a kid or teen then you know how tough you are and you may have to help your parents calm down if you are one of the tougher type kids. Remember that your parents have built a life around their home and their family and whereas they still have their family left now they no longer have a home. This is where the kids and the teens can come in and help the family unit stay together by offering their love and support to their parents. How to Cope with Academic Pressure - 4 Suggestions How

Saturday, January 26th, 2008

By Kristie Lorette School places a great deal of stress on students. But just like any stress, there are coping strategies that you can employ to manage your pressures. It is important to take control of your pressures so that they don’t take control of you in the form of burnout, depression, or a nervous breakdown. We have come up with 4 ways that you can cope with stress. You may employ one method or a combination of one or more of the methods. If you manage these coping skills correctly, they may not only get you through school, but they may also get you through life too. 1. Keep a journal or diary. Getting stress out of your system is a positive way to cope with pressure. If you keep it bottled up inside of you, it is bound to come out eventually in a way that is probably not going to be positive. Many students use their journal or diary as an outlet for their emotions. Once they get it all out on paper, they start to feel better. 2. Time management and setting priorities. By setting a schedule for yourself, you are setting up a guideline for you to follow. Don’t add further pressure to yourself by rigidly trying to stick minute by minute to your schedule. Set your schedule with priorities, reorganizing your time so that you will stick to what is important. The following are some suggestions for making valuable use of your time to get control of your stress: Make private moments to do something nice for yourself. Get an adequate amount of sleep. Work hard, but play harder. Make time for leisure activities that you enjoy. Exercise regularly, even if it is just a brisk walk around the block or on the treadmill. Eat healthy and well-balanced meals. 3. Cultivate relationships. As a human being you have a need to interact with other human beings. Friends, significant others, family members, and fellow students create a social balance to the work side of your life as a student. Spend time with people you love and who love you. Spend time with people that you enjoy being with. It helps to relieve stress and let you have a little fun now and then. 4. Seek professional help. Everyone needs a little help sometimes and if you cannot seem to get in control of your stress and coping skills, then seek professional help. There are on-campus professionals that can help you or you can seek help from a professional that is not associated with the school. Whiplash Compensation Going Ballistic

Thursday, January 24th, 2008

By Mumtaz Shah One of the most common accident claims today is whiplash compensation. Over 200,000 car accident claims occur in the UK every year and the number increases as more and more people pass their driving test and get use to the road. Many drivers even before they qualify for a license think its cool to drive knowing little about the real safety on the roads. Generally starts off by peer pressure and could drastically lead to a dangerous, unforgettable event. So whiplash compensation claims are on the rise. Everyone feels theyre a better driver, but who are you really proving it to. Worse case scenario a death is not really justifiable if you think about it. Talking about such dramatic incidents, how many people of the loved ones passed away really consider making a whiplash injury claim? Initially not many! Car accidents do occur and whiplash claims are made. A passenger in any form of transport will most definitely come out shining with their bank balance increased. But what you have to remember its not for the money, its for the inconvenience caused. The trouble you go through to get your life back on track. However an accident claim made by a driver, has one real issue. Who is at fault? Your Whiplash Compensation Claim If the accident is not your fault, considering one has admitted liability is not straight-forward anymore. At the scene when you exchange details, one may admit fault, meaning one walks away unhappy. But what happens a couple of days later when the fault drivers insurance company calls and informs you they havent admitted fault and are investigation the accident. Insurance companies have made it really difficult for everyone. Surely they dont want to make a loss, but is it helping or causing problems for their clients? Fault or non-fault, they can place everyone, fault or non-fault on hold for at least 3 months. Why 3 months? Its called a protocol period. A period where the fault side has 3 months to come up with answers. An investigation period! Leaving it all to your insurance company to handle your whiplash compensation claim may seem convenient and obviously its obligatory for them to ask. Everyone jumps to yes, but its your decision to say yes or no. Just because you took out an expensive policy doesnt mean they will bend over backwards or go the extra mile to ensure you get maximum compensation in the least possible time. No! The real advantage you have is when you seek the advice of company who has a panel of personal injury solicitors who also dont work on behalf of insurance companies. A compensation claim made with your insurance company is convenient, but is it for their benefit or yours? Over time the guidelines for making a whiplash claim are becoming more and more complicated. Previously you would have to answer probably about 5 10 questions but nowadays its more like 50. History proved that insurance companies were making a killing from policyholders, but now thats changed. People have become smart and do consider making a whiplash injury claim as thats what the policy covers. The only problem is who really wants to help. By asking questions you can and will eliminate many obstacles so dont be intimidated with the overload of questions. Have an accident compensation solicitor handle the work and you will come out shining. It’s easy to proceed with a whiplash compensation and gain maximum results without the hassle, costs and confusion. Food Choices In The Family- It Is Still Complicated

Wednesday, January 23rd, 2008

By Eric Hartwell It was hard enough for my wife to cook for my children and me when the boys were little. We always allowed the boys to choose what they wanted and to decide what they did and didn’t like to eat. Also, she doesn’t eat meat and I do not eat fish so things, as you can imagine, are pretty complicated. The thing with small children is that although you want them to be free thinkers and understand about choice you still want them to eat a balanced, healthy diet. So you do have to guide those choices to a certain degree. So you develop a fair idea of their likes and dislikes and you put a lovingly prepared nutritious meal in front of them and they say “I don’t like that.” Their palate is growing with them and their likes do change because of this and of course because little Sammy at school doesn’t like it so now it becomes taboo in our house. My wife usually ended up preparing four different meals to suit everyone. In our parents’ day a meal was made, put on the table and everyone ate it. There was no choice. This may be because the whole meal was hand prepared. Nowadays we have convenience foods, pre-prepared vegetables, packed sauces and fast food restaurants all meaning less time is being spent preparing our meals. Glass Coffee Table - Often Overlooked and Under Utilized

Tuesday, January 22nd, 2008

By Jennifer Akre If you are looking for a piece of furniture to add a luxurious touch to your home or office, do not forget to consider the often overlooked glass coffee table. Whether your choice piece of glass furniture is cut to a traditional, classic style, or is etched to demonstrate modern capabilities in the magnificent craft, a glass coffee table may be the perfect agenda for your next off or online shopping excursion. How do you know if the glass coffee table is right for you? Due to the versatility in home decorating designs these days, a glass coffee table could potentially be a superb addition to any home or office. The major issue to consider when determining if it is right for you, though, is practicality. For instance, a household with children running around all the time would obviously be a bad locale for this breakable item. Not only would this piece of furniture, with sharp edges, be a potential hazard for them, but if broken, it could harm anybody in its way. In addition to family style and who will be utilizing the table, an issue to think about that is often passed over is the state of your home or office in terms of clutter or cleanliness. It is important to consider what you plan to use it for and also, how tidy the room is around it. Do some comparison shopping, but you will find that many furniture manufacturers can custom design these tables to match your desired theme (etchings) and shape. Anything would typically look nice in an overall clean and clutter free house. It is important, though, to be realistic about the status of your home or office, or at least the room you desire your table to go in. The reason for this being that if there is constantly clutter for instance, underneath, on top of or even, around the table, it will be apparent to everyone. One might say it is the beauty and the curse of glass: you can see right through it. Furthermore, if your house tends to collect dust quite easily, unless you have ample time to remove it on a fairly regular basis, the glass furniture might not be for you. It is up to you decide if glass is right for you, as you know your home or office best. Just make sure, though, that while shopping for your new piece of glass furniture you practice thorough comparison shopping to find the best prices. Though not always the case, it is sometimes more cost effective to order this type of piece from an independent dealer, as opposed to a big name manufacturer or corporate chains. Though some of these large, well known stores may have a wider variety to choose from, you may find that they charge a significant amount more as well. Smaller retail stores or even individual artists selling their glass work will not only be more willing to negotiate prices with you, but they will also have one of a kind pieces to select from. Not to mention that you may receive a finer quality table than from a store where the item is mass produced. So if your looking to add that special finishing touch, and are struggling as to how best accomplish the task, consider a glass coffee table. Gardening Books on the Internet

Monday, January 21st, 2008

By Quentin Williams Are you a gardening enthusiast? Have you ever gone to a book store to find a particular gardening book only to be bombarded by shelf upon shelf of books on every type of gardening imaginable except the one that you really want? How about the internet? Youve heard that its a good place to find information, so you laboriously turn on your computer and enter whatever keywords you have into whatever search engine you fancy, and youre bombarded by information. Again. The solution? Simple really when you come to think about it. No, not buying out the whole bookstore. Not even finding some willing victim to trawl through those web pages for you, although that does sound like a good idea. All you have to do is write your own gardening book! I know, I know, that sort of defeats the purpose of your trying to find the information you need for yourself. But just think of all those lost souls, wandering out there in a daze searching with mounting despair through the same maze of information that you yourself searched through only days before. You probably think that youre unable to write, but hey, if you can string two sentences together in a manner pleasing to read, and you can capture the attention of your audience, then youve got it made! You dont know enough to write a gardening book? I dont believe that! If youre an honest-to-goodness gardening fanatic, then likely as not, youve been gardening for most of your life. You must remember digging up your mothers nice neat flower beds to see exactly how it worked! So, youve got the requisite experience necessary to write more than one gardening book. Now what? Well, now its all a matter of finding someone to cook your meals and remind you to eat regularly while you expound to the world at large, or in this case, your word processor, your views on gardening. You wont need to be reminded to water your garden, because conscientious gardener that you are, thatll be the last thing that you forget. Besides, it would not look too good to let your garden wither away while youre writing a gardening book! And afterwards what do you do? Well, you could always start on a sequel, because really you did not do justice to all that could be mentioned in a gardening book. Or, you could just sit back in your easy chair, a mimosa in your hand, the drink, not the flower, and reap the benefits of your very own gardening book. As for that little nugget of information that you were so desperately searching for in the beginning? Well it turns out that you really knew more than you thought you did, and it too, is now in your gardening book. Quentin Williams is the author of The Gardener’s Handbook.
