What Causes Cellulite And How To Prevent It

Friday, February 29th, 2008

By Alexander Brin It is a common knowledge that the appearance of cellulite is more common in women; and their age is of minor importance here since cellulite is often caused by hormonal disorders. During the onset of puberty the body begins to produce hormones, including female ones that are responsible for formation of adipose tissue and may damage circulation and drainage in the tissues under the skin. However, abnormal changes in tissues can be avoided if hormonal disorders are taken care of on the early stages. The young bodies can defend themselves better; and such disorders in teens are caused mostly by changes in metabolic process and thus are of temporary nature. A number of factors can cause cellulite, however, the main causes are hereditary factors and unhealthy lifestyle. Hereditary factor cannot be denied since there are too many examples of this abound. What is more, however paradoxical it may seem, family upbringing plays a significant role in why we live an unhealthy lifestyle. The expression unhealthy lifestyle has an extensive meaning and includes a number of factors characteristic of human beings. In this connection the Oriental wisdom should be mentioned: in Orientalism the harmony and ways to achieve it were explored for years. The life is conceived by Oriental people as the unity of light yang and dark yin. There is no telling that yang is good and should exist, while yin is bad and should be got rid of. Such approach is typical of a Westerner accustomed to oppose good to evil. A Chinese or Japanese, however, sees no conflict here, and accepts the world as is, with any seeming contradictions. In fact, who can say for sure what is better and what is worse: warmth or cold, day or night, man or woman? These are indivisible and interconnected components of our world that form the world order Dao. And a humans aim is to cognize Dao, and achieve harmony by adjusting the life to the naturalness of the world. It surely requires many efforts, and we have to rid ourselves step by step of vileness in us. If we consider this desire from the point of view of our flesh, we may come to many questions. And the first of them is what the right and healthy diet is? Lasik Rochester New York

Wednesday, February 27th, 2008

By Damian Sofsian The University of Rochester Medical Center is probably the largest local resource in the Rochester area for lasik surgeons. Its website has a useful Find a Provider link to help you find eye surgeons who specialize in corneal surgery. Most of these surgeons are affiliated with the Strong Memorial Hospital. On the Find a Provider link, you should select Ophthalmology under specialty and Cornea/External Disease under subspecialty. You will then get a list of surgeons with their contact information. You can also check their medical credentials and find out who is accepting new patients. Outside of the University of Rochester, there are a few group and independent practices. While it is essential to choose a surgeon based on their level of experience and ability to perform the latest procedures, lasik is an expensive proposition for most people. Lasik is considered cosmetic surgery, and is therefore not covered under most health insurance plans. You can check with your employer if you are eligible to pay for lasik with pre-tax dollars through Flexible Spending Accounts. Alternatively, most hospitals and practices offer payment installment schemes. The cost for conventional lasik surgery at Strong Memorial Hospitals refractive surgery center is $ 1,900 per eye. Custom lasik is more expensive, costing approximately $ 2,400 per eye. These fees include follow-up visits up to one year. There is no re-treatment cost if you need additional surgery after custom lasik; the cost for re-treatment after conventional lasik is $ 200. Over 90 percent of people who have lasik surgery report improved vision after surgery. While lasik treats corneal refractive errors, it cannot treat the visual deficits that result from the natural aging process. Presbyopia is a loss in the ability of the eye to focus, and is caused by age-related changes to the lens of the eye. New York Lasik provides detailed information on Lasik Albany New York, Lasik Rochester New York, Lasik Surgery Upstate New York, Lasik Utica New York and more. Understanding Home Loan Refinancing Costs

Tuesday, February 26th, 2008

By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Carrie_Reeder]Carrie Reeder Because of declining mortgage rates, many homeowners are choosing to refinance their home loan. If your home was purchased when rates were much higher, you may benefit from a new mortgage. Although refinancing is an attractive mortgage feature, it is not always the best option. Before refinancing, it is important that you understand the process. Mortgage Refinance Information A mortgage refinance creates an entirely new mortgage. This mortgage replaces the old. Therefore the process is very similar to acquiring the original loan. Getting a mortgage loan is an extensive process. You have to review your credit, compare lenders, and pay fees associated with mortgages. Common mortgage fees also apply to refinancing your home. Why Refinance Home Mortgage Interest Rate? Some mortgage experts suggest that the time to refinance is when your current mortgage rate is about two percentage points above the market trend. If you refinance with a one point different, the savings are small and not worth the refinancing costs. This is a great option for those who purchased their homes when mortgage rates were at 8 or 9 percent. An interest rate drop will cause a reduction in your monthly mortgage payment. An additional reason for refinancing your present mortgage is to get a fixed rate mortgage. Today, there is a variety of loan programs. These include adjustable rate mortgages, interest-only mortgages, etc. Initially, these loans carry low interest rates. However, because the rates are not fixed, they may increase. As mortgage rates increase, so does your mortgage. Home Mortgage Refinance Costs If you are hoping to get a fixed rate mortgage or a lower interest rate, be prepared to pay closing costs and mortgage fees. The fees for mortgages vary. On average, you can expect to pay 3 to 6 percent of the total loan amount. This does not include down payments. Typical mortgage fees include application fee, appraisal fee, hazard insurance, attorney’s fee, title search, home inspection, loan origination fee, and mortgage insurance. To obtain a lower rate, you may have to pay points. If you refinance with your current mortgage lender, some fees may be waived. A Reasonably Priced Dream Wedding

Monday, February 25th, 2008

By Kim Prissel It is possible to have a reasonably priced, yet beautiful wedding. To leave for Italy with her fianc, my daughter decided to get married with only two months notice. We managed to put together a beautiful wedding with a decent price tag. First of all, she wanted to get married on the beach at sunset. We found a gazebo right on the beach and asked the local mayor to officiate the wedding. The cost was nominal. The gazebo was just large enough for the people attending to be seated inside. The bridal party walked around the gazebo and stood between the gazebo and the water for the ceremony. One of my big concerns was the people on the beach. They werent invited guests, yet they would be in the midst of the wedding. Much to my surprise, these people were quite delighted to witness the ceremony and treated the officiating with the utmost respect. They merely turned their beach chairs around and watched the wedding in silence. Decoration for this part of the wedding was minimal. We donned the posts of the gazebo with bows of tulle and let the breezes blow them about. Extra chairs were loaned from our church and returned by a friend. The happy couple stayed at a bed and breakfast for the night and came back to town the next day. Since the beach was not close to where we live, we had the reception the next evening at a hall. Maps were provided on small cards in the invitations so guests could find both locations with ease. The hall offered a complete package if you liked, DJ, cake, flowers, linens, the works. After figuring out each individual price if I didnt pick the package, the price would have been much higher. The DJ did an excellent job as master of ceremonies, introducing the parents, the wedding party, and finally the couple. Then the couple had the first dance with everyone looking on. This was nice for the older folks who would leave early in the evening and ordinarily miss the first dance. After the meal he also helped officiate over the cake cutting and got the music started on time. Table decorations were simple for the evening, flowers from the catering package, and large flat bowls filled with sand, shells and a light blue candle. The most expensive factor of the wedding was the photographer. We chose a photographer that not only did the posed traditional pictures for the album but also included hundreds of candid shots. We had to pick a longer time package than most weddings because the celebrations were spread out over two days. This ended up being a great factor because it offered a lot more opportunities for candid shots with attendees. The longer time package was great value because it included a leather-bound photo album for the bride and groom with 50 photos inside. My daughter was extremely pleased with the variety of photos she could choose from. Overall, my daughter got the wedding she dreamed of, which was quite lovely and had a reasonable price tag. How to Work with Florida’s Lemon Law

Sunday, February 24th, 2008

By E. B. Randall If you haven’t read the article on “Coverage Under Florida’s Lemon Law,” you’re strongly encouraged to read that first so that you’re clear on what vehicles, under what circumstances are and aren’t covered by the Florida Lemon Laws. This article is about the procedures which are necessary when you decide to pursue your rights under the Florida Lemon Laws. Your first concern is how long has it been since you bought the vehicle. A Lemon Law action can be brought during what is generally called the “Lemon Law Rights Period.” This period is the eighteen (18) months beginning on the original delivery date or the first twenty-four thousand (24,000) miles. The period ends with whichever occurs first. The process required often seems to be both long and complicated. While it can be discouraging at first, if you are willing to be patient, stay with it and be sure to follow the procedures carefully, you can succeed. Don’t give up and don’t let anything discourage you from trying. What follows is an outline of the process, the basic requirements and the steps involved: First, within the Lemon Law Rights Period, there must have been either (a) a minimum of three attempts by the manufacturer or its agent to repair the vehicle for the same defect (b) the vehicle must have been unusable for reason of attempted repair by the manufacturer (or its agent) for one or more defects for a total of thirty days or more. This does not include any periods for maintenance dictated by the owner’s manual. Second, when vehicle reaches a cumulative total of fifteen or more days being out of service for repair by the manufacturer or its agent for one or more defects, the owner is required to give written notice of the need for repair, by registered or express mail, to the manufacturer. Then the manufacturer has one last chance to fix the defect. Third, if this final attempt at repair fails, then manufacturer must either replace or repurchase the motor vehicle within forty days. However, it isn’t automatic. You must continue to follow the proper procedures to enforce your rights by following these steps: If the manufacturer has a dispute-settlement procedure then you need to apply under that procedure. Not every manufacturer does, so be sure to check with the manufacturer. If you’re not pleased with the decision of the manufacturer’s dispute-settlement procedure, you can then apply to be heard by the State of Florida’s New Motor Vehicle Arbitration Board. If Florida’s New Motor Vehicle Arbitration Board declines to hear the case OR it hears the case but makes a ruling against you, you can now file the case in Circuit Court. If you are appealing from a ruling against you by the Board, you need to do it within 30 (thirty) days of that ruling. In the most general terms, the covered vehicle must have been subject to repair for the same defect (which impairs the value, safety or usability of the vehicle) for at least thirty (30) days. This must occur during the Lemon Law Rights Period. You must also be acting in good faith and must follow the law in providing proper notice to the manufacturer. Finally, you will need to submit to arbitration. The Office of the Attorney General has published more complete information in “Preserving Your Rights Under The Lemon Law.” You can obtain this publication through the Division of Consumer Services at: (800)321-5366 or by writing to: Office of the Attorney General Lemon Law Research Unit The Capitol Tallahassee, Florida 32399-1050 E.B. Health Savings Accounts Are Creating Innovative Medical Services

Wednesday, February 20th, 2008

By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Wiley_P_Long] Wiley P Long The new world of consumer-driven healthcare is opening up many opportunities for people to save money on their medical expenses. As more people carry high deductible plans in conjunction with health savings accounts, medical providers are beginning to compete for that business in a variety of innovative ways. One way many people are saving money on doctor visits is through telephone consultations. Many times an expensive doctor visit could be avoided if you could just talk to the doctor to discuss the situation over the phone. If you could do a quick email exchange and have a prescription waiting for you at the pharmacy, you could save time and money, and let the funds in your Health Savings Account continue to grow for your retirement. There are now online physician consultation services that allow you to do just that. While an ER visit may indeed treat medical needs, the reality is that most visits end up being more about peace of mind. If your child’s skin is turning red in the middle of the night, you might not know if it’s harmless flushing, or a serious allergic reaction. So you rush off to the emergency room, fill out some forms, and sit in a room full of contagious people. You wait and wait, finally get to speak to a nurse, then wait some more, and explain your problem again to the resident. Then you may have a battery of tests done, wait some more, and finally leave with a prescription and a bill for $650. All this for a problem that could have been far less expensive, and handled more simply and expediently by discussing the situation with your doctor. According to the American Medical Association, about 70% of doctor and emergency room visits are actually just informational. However, asking your doctor a health question is rarely as easy as picking up the phone. Because insurance companies do not normally reimburse doctors for phone care, most traditional practices avoid offering such service. Instead, their objective is to get you into the office so that you can be billed for the service you receive. Paying for that office and the surrounding bureaucracy is not cheap. A doctor’s costs may include the office itself, a receptionists, a triage nurse, someone handling insurance billing, office managers, and expensive medical equipment. All this is very expensive to maintain, so generating as many office visits as possible is critical for most doctors to even stay in business. So you get stuck in a system that is inconvenient, expensive, and does not value your time. Telephone Consultation Services As health savings accounts become more popular and more people are paying for their own doctor visits, several companies have begun offering inexpensive telephone and email consultations with board-certified physicians. These companies can offer dramatically lower prices because they have cut out most of the costs that burden traditional medical facilities. Though telephone consultations are obviously not appropriate for all medical conditions, it is an accepted standard of care for many health-care problems. In fact, telephone medicine has been around as long as the telephone, and is practiced throughout the country by most doctors at nights and on weekends. Here are a few companies that are now offering telephone consultations with licensed physicians: Doctor on Call ( [http://www.unadoctoroncall.com/ ] www.unadoctoroncall.com). This company currently has over 240 board-certified physicians on call, with 24-hour access. The physicians with this service will not diagnose or prescribe, but they will provide information based on your questions. The price is a bargain - only $5.95/month for the family for an unlimited number of calls. TelaDoc Medical Services ( [http://www.teladoc.com/ ] www.teladoc.com). This company also provides 24-hour access to members and dependents age 12+. Telephone medical consultations are with primary care doctors who can also diagnose medical problems and prescribe appropriate medications. There is an initial $18 registration fee, and a monthly fee of $4.25 for an individual or $7 for a family. Consultations are a flat $35. Doctokr ( [http://www.doctokr.com/ ] www.doctokr.com) is a practice run by Virginia physician Alan Dappen. Though this service is only available to people who can come in to his office for an initial visit, it is a model likely to be copied by other providers as consumers become more price conscious when shopping for medical care. 24-hour access is available by telephone and email. Consultations are billed in 5-minute increments ranging in price from $15 to $22.50. A simple consultation to request medication refills costs from $10 to $15 for up to 5 medications. There is a monthly fee of $5.95.Saving You Time and Money Not only will these services save you money when compared to a typical doctor visit, but they will also save you time. You may be able to quickly resolve routine medical issues in a fraction of the time you would spend accessing care from urgent care facilities, emergency rooms or physician offices. If you use a service that will prescribe medications, you could have your consultation finished and the medicine in hand in less than the time it would otherwise take just to visit the doctor. As telephone technology evolves, these services will add picture taking and even recording vital signs, and the scope of these physician consultations will become broader. With doctor visits approaching $100 each and ER visits in excess of $800, it doesn’t take much to justify the small monthly fee for most of these services. Though there are certainly times when visiting your doctor’s office or the emergency room is the most appropriate thing to do, as a smart consumer you owe it to yourself to be aware of all your options. Using a physician telephone consultation service can help you avoid the expense, time, and hassles of urgent care facilities, emergency rooms, and visits to the doctor. Ornamental Aluminum Fences

Sunday, February 17th, 2008

By Damian Sofsian Most aluminum fences have simple, non-complicated designs. Many people purchase these fences because they are practical and affordable. However, those who have a more stylish outlook, and want a touch of elegance and high quality, can opt for ornamental aluminum fences. Ornamental fences are normally constructed with smaller components. The panels are built at the factory and then fastened with brackets to the fencepost at the installation site. Just like any other fencing, ornamental aluminum fences serve a security function. Thus, it is important to make sure that the fence has a good height and that the pickets are close enough to prevent children, animals or trespassers from slipping between them. Pointed-top pickets will also be good idea, to prevent anyone from climbing over the fence. Other than security reasons, aluminum ornamental fences also enhance the attractiveness of a property. Ornamental aluminum fences come in various designs to suit your taste, and are reputed to be long-lasting. They can be custom-made to any length, height or color. However, purchasers should keep in mind that aluminum ornamental fences do not last as long as the ones made out of steel or iron. Therefore, if the fence is going to be subjected to hard work such as keeping away children or blocking motor vehicles and power equipment, then another fencing material might be preferable. Ornamental aluminum fences may be subjected to more stress than necessary, to accommodate their intricate designs and to give them that exotic look. However, recent developments have enabled manufacturers to increase the strength of aluminum fences, making them an attractive and practical choice. Dining Out with a Weight Loss Diet

Saturday, February 16th, 2008

By Alberto Martinez Miller When you are trying any type of weight loss diet, dining out, and grocery shopping can be dreaded tasks. Often times, depending on the weight loss diet you have chosen, restaurants do not carry many diet-friendly menu items. The grocery store, forgive me for saying this, can be pure hell for any person on a weight loss diet. Well with this article, you will find that neither has to be the nightmare we all know it can be. If you find the right weight loss diet you can eat out at your favorite restaurants confident that, you will stick to the diet and still experience weight loss. It is really very simple, if you know exactly what to do. You know those appetizers and bread that restaurants like to tempt us with? Avoid them! Do not eat them before you eat your meal. If they really look good, take them home with you and have them for snacks later. The entire key of weight loss diets is knowing what to eat, how much to eat, and when to quit. It is important that you avoid eating all you can at one meal. You should only eat until full. When I say full, I do not mean that stuffed feeling that you get after eating a big meal, where if you move you might simply fall over or vomit, whichever comes first. No, you should only eat until your body says ok that was good. Breaking up your meals into several mini-meals is a great weight to begin a weight loss diet. Eat until you are satisfied and save the rest for later. Some weight loss diets suggest that you literally eat six to eight small meals a day. What this does is allows your body enough time to convert the foods into energy and metabolism, which promotes weight loss. The more metabolism you experience, the greater the energy, the greater the activity, the greater the weight loss. It is better to take leftovers home with you from a restaurant, when on a weight loss diet, than it is to sit there and stuff yourself. The more you eat at a single sitting, the less likely you are to lose that weight you want to lose. You start a weight loss diet to free yourself from the monster of fat. It is important that you learn healthier eating habits and understand that while you need to watch the foods you eat, you do not have to starve yourself, but you also do not want to over-eat either. Only eat what you need, save the rest for later. Alberto Martinez Miller. Chugging Along Online - Tips For Buying Model Trains On The Internet

Friday, February 15th, 2008

By B. Murphy One of the best things about modern times is the ready availability of materials and supplies. Since the advent of the internet you dont even have to travel to your local mall or distribution center to find that hard to come by toy or model, you can order it delivered right to your door! The only caveat to this plethora of supplies is that you dont always know exactly what it is you are getting without being able to see and handle an item before hand its possible to be fooled by images or overzealous descriptions. This is perhaps the bane of internet purchases but dont fear, with a little foresight and some care you can avoid these and other problems with online purchases. The rules for buying model railroad supplies online, just as with any other purchase are simple: 1) Buy from a reputable dealer 2) If possible buy only known brand(s) and product lines that you have had experience with 3) Be sure to understand the return policy and costs associated with an exchange 4) Use a credit card or other method of payment that offers you some protection, especially on high-dollar purchases There are many available online resources with proven track records and finding these by discussion groups and querying other hobbyists is always a good way to weed through the numerous suppliers. The lowest cost should not be the only deciding criteria when making a purchase but the quality of the materials and the friendliness and availability of the store personnel both online and if possible in person should be taken into account. This is especially the case when buying from auction sites or other low cost options be sure to double check the seller to make sure that they are providing a quality product price isnt everything. When it comes to an ongoing hobby like model railroading you need to understand that you will probably be forming a long-term relationship with the vendors you like, and should expect them to act accordingly. With a little research a few bucks and couple of mouse clicks that special locomotive can be headed your way today and who knows what may follow? A Valentine Heart Should Be More Than Just A Box Of Chocolate

Thursday, February 14th, 2008

By JoAnn Hines Well, it is that time again when hearts are all a flutter with sending and getting Valentines Day gifts. Do you know that Richard Cadbury invented the first Valentines Day candy box in the late 1800s? Or that the Chocolate Manufacturers Association of America reports that 36 million boxes of chocolate are sold for Valentines Day? Cha-ching for candy companies. I walked several stores to see what offerings were available this year in the chocolate category. Mostly the typical Valentines Day heart shaped red/pink candy boxes caught my eye. Surprisingly, the Valentine heart box has changed very little over the years. It has a few ruffles, banners or flowers but essentially it is the same old box. What a waste to not expand the marketing effort and maximize the package to increase sales. Now I have eaten my share of chocolate over the years, but lately I have been watching the healthy aspects of what I eat. So why arent these candy manufactures touting the fact that chocolate is good for me. According to a recent study chocolate contains compounds called flavonoids that can help maintain a healthy heart and good circulation and reduce blood clotting which can cause heart attacks and stroke. More and more, we are finding evidence that consumption of chocolate that is rich in flavonoids can have positive cardiovascular effects, says Carl Keen, a nutritionist at the University of California, Davis. Wow! How about that for a great reason to eat more chocolate? No more guilt trips when I eye the candy isle. But I just dont get the concept that marketers dont understand that chocolate equals a good thing. Duh, shouldnt that be emblazoned on every box of chocolate and Valentine box? Supposedly, it is only the dark chocolate but I will make that sacrifice. How hard is it for marketers to make that leap? They have the opportunity to sell more chocolate by advertising that it is good for you. And you wives and girlfriends, men say they would rather give a box of chocolate than flowers. How wonderful, an equal opportunity Valentines Day gift of chocolate. So the next time an occasion comes your way, think outside the box. Literally, think about the outside of the box. The outside of the box can do much more marketing and about delivering ways to sell a product uniquely and creatively. Want to know more about the role of packaging?
