5 Ways To Entice Your Parallel Market to Trade Links

Monday, April 28th, 2008

By Tinu Abayomi-Paul Lots of people get confounded when attempting to exchange links, youre not alone. The people who have the spot you want are competitors. The people who don’t aren’t worth exchanging links with. What to do? It’s not necessarily the method you’re using, it may be the approach. If you know anything about SEO, you know you need relevant links to your site, preferably more in than you have out. And whether you actively pursue search engine listings or not, youll find that many surfers travel the web through the links they find, often without realizing it. So how do you achieve this without linking to the sites you are competing with? Think Parallel Markets. When most people think of this term, they are speaking from an investment standpoint. In this discussion, I’m simply referring to groups of products and services which cater to people with similiar needs. If your market is delivery or carry-out pizza, your market is fast food. But your parallel market might be frozen pizzas, Italian food store chains, or cheese, maybe even films. Pizza delivery chains offer free DVDs with a delivery order because they figure that people who eat pizza at home watch films while they eat - ordering in and watching a movie is (sadly) the new third date. To discover your parallel market, think of things that your customers have in common that brings them to your site, then eliminate things that compete. So now you know *who* to ask to link to you. But *how* do you get them to link back? Especially as a new webmaster, it helps if you think from the opposing end of your desires. Meaning that, before you ask for something, think of what you can give in return. What are the other person’s needs? If you dont know, you can probably find out by subscribing to their newsletter or feed. That way, when you write to them, instead of sending the standard cookie-cutter email, you can add personalized information that lets them know that you have been to their site repeatedly, list specific issues they have stated before, and use this information to make it worth their while. Which email would you answer? The one that is obviously a copy, personalized only with your email address? Or the one that states your name and shows that the other person has actually been to your site before? So take a look at your site. Why should anyone link to you? What will they get out of the deal? Is your site a great resource? Do you have a higher Google PR? Do you do site reviews? Or maybe youll just use whatever text they ask for? When you first start out, with no links back to your site, find other people in your parallel markets who need links too. You’re both in the same boat. Help each other. Then as you see your traffic rising, you can start going after bigger and bigger fish. But again, make it worth their while. Here are some ways in which you can make a link trade a little more attractive. Method One: The Recommendation Exchange When I know of a site that sells inexpensive tools for new marketers that are ready to advance to the next level, I refer a lot of my more advanced crowd to them, and they send me their beginners. So in approaching them, I might tell them that not only have I already linked to them, but if they link back Ill also write about them in my blog and my newsletter. Costs me nothing but an extra five minutes, and Im more likely to get a little bit more than the link trade. Method Two: The Bribe This can also increase your reputation as an expert in your field. Pick five people who are a bit more knowledgeable than you. Ask them if theyd like to be interviewed, for a collection, and offer to distribute the resulting resource for free to their audience, if theyll link to your home page, where the free ebook can be downloaded. You’ve got their link, they’ve got free publicity in a book they can - and probably will - distribute for you. Method Three: Use That Feed There are the sites that want to carry a relevant, frequently updated feed in order to get more search engine visits. So, if you have a feed, you could send that webmaster a link to your feed, and tell them how they can use tools like CARP, RSS Equalizer or RSS Digest to display your feed on their site. If you update daily, and you’re willing to take the bandwidth hit, you might find that they don’t even mind a one way link. Method Four: The Barter Give them a free copy of your book if theyd link to you. Offer to link back to them if theyll write a testimonial about the book. Method Five: The Testimonial This is a slight variation on the recommendation, because it sometimes ends up as more of a one-way trade. If you sincerely enjoy a service or product that you bought, go back and pull up the sales page. If the links on the page for the testimonials are live, offer your testimonial. Caution: Only offer testimonials on products you really used and benefitted from. Its fine to put your name on something controversial if you really believe in it, but if you give a testimonial just for a link back to your site, youre messing with your good name. You should also know that they may not use your testimonial on their site, unless its really good - so and try to be as specific as possible about how their product helped you. The point is, if you think creatively, you can solve your linking problem. Strong Arm Sales Stop Success Cold

Saturday, April 26th, 2008

By Susan Friedmann It happens more often than youd ever guess in fact, it might be happening at the booth right next to yours. Recent surveys of trade show attendees show that the most dissatisfied attendees are those who purchase something that they really didnt want. Needless to say, these attendees dont have a high opinion of those companies that strong-armed them, and report that theyll be unlikely to do business with them again. How can this happen? What possible way is there to force attendees into purchasing something unwillingly? Not all the people pleasers at a trade show are booth staff. Some are walking the aisle, as attendees. When these types run into an overly-forward, persistant salesperson, they can be bullied into a purchase. Thats not the way you want to do business. Instead, train your team to have a needs-focused approach. By engaging attendees in conversation, questioning and listening more than talking, and truly focusing on solving the attendees problems, you are far more likely to make a sale the attendee is satisfied with. Key to this is five questions, the Familiar Five that should be part of every sales conversation: What: What exactly does the attendee need? Do they have problems with their existing suppliers? Are they trying to make-do with a product that doesnt exactly fit their needs? Perhaps the product works perfectly, but its too expensive. You need this answer before you can move on to any other questions. Why: Why would your company be the best suited to meet the attendees needs? If they mention constant technical difficulty, do you offer 24 hour support? If they need a size 3 widget, does your company manufacturer size 3 widgets? Who: Relationships are key to business. At the same time, our mobile society means that rapid staff turnover is a fact of life. Two companies may have had or come near a business relationship previously, only to have things not work out. Yet this fact could be completely unknown to your booth staff. Arm your team with some corporate history, along with selling points that illustrate how things have changed in the interim. When: When your team says something, attendees want to know they can count on that as fact. Clients want to know you have a track record and that you’ll maintain it when they remain with you. Feel free to use concrete examples: Even though were consistently introducing new and innovative models, we still provide parts, service and support to every model weve ever made all the way back to day one. How: How your company conducts itself is becoming a much more important factor to many of todays decision makers. Consumers want to avoid being tainted by association with any scandal-ridden firms. If an attendee brings up a current negative newsmaker, avoid the temptation to dish. Instead, answer with a comment that shows your companys strength and leadership. We know that those types of things happen in our industry, but weve found the better route is the straight and narrow. That way we can stay focused on our customer and their needs. Now, admittedly, it can be difficult to fit all of this into the thirty seconds you have with the average attendee. The temptation is to talk faster, attempting to cram in as much information as you can. But dont. Your job is to get them talking and once an attendee starts talking, they are far more likely to spend some additional time at your exhibit. Body language also plays a role in how your sales team is perceived. Here are five key things to remember: 1. Keep Your Distance: Crowding can be intimidating, especially if the staff is of large stature and the attendee is smaller. A good rule of thumb is to keep at least one arms length between the two of you. 2. Keep Your Arms Down: Some staffers, especially the flamboyant, dramatic types, have a tendency to talk with their hands. This works fine in a social situation, but can be unnerving or distracting when youre trying to do business. 3. Keep Things Open: Very skittish or shy types may subconciously feel trapped if you position yourself between them and the way out of your exhibit. You dont have to be an Old West Cowboy with this theres no need to always stand with your back to the wall but be aware of spatial issues and attempt to keep things open and comfortable. 4. Keep An Eye: On the way the conversation is going. If you have the slightest suspicion that an attendee is uncomfortable, or just doesnt like you, hand them off to another staffer. Sometimes personalities just dont click, and its better to step out gracefully than attempt to blunder through the encounter. 5. Keep An Ear: Open for what the attendee is saying. People can tell when youre really listening and when youre going through the motions. A million subtle physical cues give it away. Dont try to phone in your interest. Pay attention! Go over these items with your team before the show. When your team is skilled, they wont need strong arm tactics which will make everybody happy! Written by Susan A. Letting the Relationship Die - Why “Saving” a Relationship is Often the Worst Thing You Can Do

Thursday, April 24th, 2008

By Greg Baer I receive letters like the following on a regular basis: “My boyfriend and I first met six months ago, and in the beginning, we couldn’t have had more fun. We did everything together. He was good-looking, intelligent, had a good job and a great sense of humor. Sexually, we couldn’t have been more compatible. At one point, we were even talking about getting engaged, but now things have changed, and I just don’t understand it. Now we argue all the time, and he’s starting to avoid me. I’ve tried to talk to him about our relationship, but he gets irritated and says there’s nothing wrong. I don’t get it. How could we have had such a great relationship, but now it’s so different? I’ve been through this in a couple of other relationships too, and I don’t want to keep repeating this pattern.” Real Love is the one thingmore than anything elsethat we have to have in order to be happy as inviduals, and without it we simply can’t participate in healthy relationships. Nothing can replace Real Love. But when we don’t have enough Real Love, the emptiness is intolerable, so we do go looking for something to replace it. And we discover that there are some things that feel pretty good, like the approval of other peopleeven if we have to earn it. So do praise, power, money, and sex. If we can’t get the real thingReal Lovewe try to get as much of those other things (Imitation Love) as we can. When we get big enough doses of approval, praise, sex, whatever, we actually believe we’re genuinely happy, but then the effects of Imitation Love wear offthey always doand we’re empty again. We have to look for more. That’s what has happened in your several relationships with men, including the one with your present boyfriend. Unless you quite different from the vast majority of human beings, it’s unlikely that you’ve had much experience with Real Love. You actually prove that with some of the things you say about him. You say he’s good looking. In other words, he provides you with the physical pleasure of looking at an attractive man and of fantasizing about the pleasure you might have with him. In addition, when you’re seen with a good looking man, other people think better of you. So when you say he’s good looking, you’re not really describing him. You’re describing how he pleases youhow he gives you Imitation Love in the forms of pleasure (from him) and praise (from others). You say he’s intelligent, which provides you with stimulating conversation, as well as someone who can solve problems that might come up from time to time. He has a good job. That’s a nice source of potential security for you. You say he has a great sense of humor, which means that you enjoy how he entertains you. He pleases you sexually. Again, it’s about how he pleases you. Notice the pattern here? All these characteristics have nothing to do with Real Love. You’re describing how he provides Imitation Love for you and makes you feel better in the short term. You’d only have that interest if you hadn’t received enough Real Love up to this point in your life. But the effects of Imitation Love always wear off, as you’ve noticed in several relationships. After six months, the thrill of sex isn’t what it once was. Being sexually attractive doesn’t win you the same praise, nor does that praise feel quite as good as it once did. Your boyfriend has begun to avoid you because he has noticed the diminishing effects of Imitation Love, too. The two of you are arguing more now, because you’re both terribly disappointed that the thrill you once felt from the other just isn’t the same. You feel betrayed, so you’re angrily demanding from each othermostly without realizing itthat the other person do whatever it takes to restore that old magic. My What you don’t realize is that the old magic was an illusion. It was a lie based on Imitation Love. From the beginning, your relationship was not based on Real Love, so pretty much it was doomed from the start. So what can you do now? If you were actually marriedif you’d made a commitment to stay together for a lifetimeI’d recommend that you stay together and learn how to work this out. But you haven’t made that commitment, so what’s important now is that you learn HOW to have a relationship based on Real Love. It would be pretty difficult for you to learn about unconditional love while you stayed with your boyfriend, because you’d be very distracted by the enormous expectations you have of him. You’d be constantly disappointed and irritated at him. On the whole, you’ll find it much, much easier to leave this relationshipright now; it doesn’t get easier with timeand start over. Learn how to tell the truth about yourself to some friendsgirlfriends, preferably, so you won’t be distracted by the possibility of an intimate relationship. As you do that, you’ll create opportunities to feel their unconditional acceptance, and that will pretty much change everything. As you feel enough Real Love, you won’t be fooled by Imitation Love again. You won’t start relationships based on that flawed foundation. Instead, you’ll look forand you’ll findrelationships based on the truth. Those are the ones that last, the kind you’ve been looking for all your life. The world is literally dying from a lack of the one thing essential for our happinessReal Love. We spend our entire lives trying to replace that unconditional love with praise, power, sex, money, entertainment, safety, and so on. But it never works, and the resulting emptiness and fear are almost too much to bear. We dont have to live like this anymore. Greg Baer and RealLove.com are teaching (1) the real cause of fear and anger and (2) how to find this Real Love that replaces the fear, anger, and conflict in our lives with peace, confidence, and genuine happiness. Dr. Greg Baer is the author of 16 books, DVDs, and CDstwo of which are internationally published by Penguin Putnam Groupand has presented the life-changing message of Real Love to hundreds of thousands of people all over the world. Preventing Setbacks: Compulsive Eating, Binge Eating, And Eating Addictions

Tuesday, April 22nd, 2008

By Annette Colby On your journey to moving past using food to cope with lifes difficulties, you will experience good days and bad days. It takes a lot of work to develop self-compassion and much practice utilizing new ways of thinking and acting. It is my belief that what is commonly referred to as relapses or set-backs are not a step back in time, but an important experience needed to gain new understandings and to strengthen new choices. When a relapse does occur it does not happen spontaneously, but occurs with a process of thoughts, ideas, attitudes, emotions and behaviors. Meaning that a series of circumstances occur which progressively lead to choosing food as a coping mechanism. A person doesnt suddenly find themselves overwhelmed by the need for food. There are warning signs along the way. These warning signs show up in mental thoughts and attitudes, physically felt emotions, and expressed behaviors and actions. Relapse warning signs often build up slowly until they become overpowering. Once they are overpowering, you may experience a loss of control of thinking, emotions, memory, judgement and behavior. Often, we have not taught ourselves to be aware of our warning signs. And if you are not aware that you are headed down a slippery slope, it may be too late when you find yourself at the bottom. Therefore, it is important to find a way to recognize and monitor your relapse warning signs. If you are prepared and recognize the pattern that is happening, you can be more empowered the next time. Relapse is usually caused by a combination of factors. Some possible factors and warning signs are included in the list below: APPETITE Increase in obsessive thinking about food and weight Sudden increase or decrease in appetite Weight gain or loss Skipping meals Eating only diet foods Food rules become more pronounced SOCIAL INTERACTION Isolating Withdrawn behavior Not relying on people for support Change in sleep patterns Difficulty sleeping or sleeping too much Loss of daily structure MEDICATION Use of alcohol Use of mood altering chemicals Increase in smoking, cigarettes, caffeine Numbing out with excessive shopping, sex, busyness, internet, etc. Excessive exercise HOSTILITY Verbal or physical threats Desire to hurt self or others Angry outbursts Destruction of property APPEARANCE Decreased personal hygiene or self-care Increased use of make-up Bizarre dreams Daily weighing Excessive exercising THOUGHT PROCESS Perfectionistic attitudes Setting unrealistic goals Believing you will be happy and successful if thin Feeling of being “too fat”, even though people say otherwise Obsessive thinking Dwelling on past hurts, resentments, anger, or failures Being too hard on yourself Forgetting gratitude Feeling disgusted after eating Trouble concentrating or thinking clearly Difficulty remembering things Confused or distracted Wanting to escape from stressful situations instead of dealing with them MOOD Exhaustion Tearfulness Irritability Unusual or unprovoked anxiety Feeling hopeless about work, relationships or life Depression Feeling powerless or helpless Self-pity Complacency Conscious lying / dishonesty Loss of self-confidence Loneliness Frustration Anger Tension Disappointment, shame, guilt Constant boredom - irritability - lack of routine Feeling overwhelmed - confused - useless -stressed out SUICIDE Thoughts of suicide Preoccupation with death Devising a suicide or self-harm plan Self-destructive behavior Cutting Feeling that nothing can be solved Wishing something would magically happen to rescue you A relapse rarely happens suddenly. We can teach ourselves to notice the progressive warning signs that lead to a relapse in our behavior. Most people have never been taught to identify and manage the warning signs, so they dont notice them until the pain becomes to severe to ignore. If you can learn to identify your warning signs, you may be able to intervene early and keep symptoms from escalating. Use this form to circle your relapse signs, or write a list of personal warning signs that lead you back into your food patterns. By identifying things that put us at risk for relapse, developing a practical plan of action, and utilizing various new skills, tools and coping behaviors, we can empower ourselves and reduce the frequency of lapse back into our addictive behaviors. If and when a relapse does occur, do not judge or blame, you are not a bad person. Seek progress, understanding and compassion, not perfection. COMMON TOOLS TO HELP IN A TIME OF CRISIS: Regular journaling to monitor progress Regular journaling for gratitude Attending support meetings or OA Reaching out by telephone (print a list of people to call ahead of time) Prayer or meditation seeking guidance Reading inspiration books or poems A written plan of action A written list of things to do when symptoms increase or cravings begin Relaxation techniques Deep breathing exercise Helping others Talking to friends or counselors (For more ideas on tools to utilize during a crisis, see articles posted at www.LovingMiracles.com under the Healing Articles section of the website). ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Helping people let go of self-destructive thoughts, emotions, and behaviors has been the life work of Dr. Annette Colby. Growing Dieffenbachia as a Houseplant

Sunday, April 20th, 2008

By Justin Card Here is one houseplant which is quite popular. Dieffenbachia is grown for its attractive patterned foliage, and is commonly found as a houseplant due to its ability to tolerate shade. However, if you have pets which love to chew houseplants, or you have young children in the house, you may want to skip this one. Once the kids are older and it can be protected from the pets, you may want to consider this one. Now that we have that warning out of the way, here is more information on the growing of this popular houseplant. Dieffenbachia are a tropical perennial from the family araceae, which also includes philodendrons, anthurium, caladium, and spahtiphyllum. They are commonly grown for their variegated foliage, which may be varying greens, white, and yellow. Most plants will grow to about 4 feet tall, although plant height of 8 feet has been reported, especially in semitropic and tropical areas. Like all aroids, dieffenbachia will occasionally flower, with very small flowers appearing on an inflorescence called a spadix. A spathe, or hood, often accompanies the spadix and may partially surround it. Due to their preference of shade, but bright indirect light, dieffenbachia tend to do well as houseplants. Normally near an east or west facing window will supply enough light, but southern windows may provide too much or too direct of sunlight. If near a southern window and leaves appear to yellow and fall off, you may want to try moving it to a more shaded location and see if its condition improves. Dieffenbachia are tropical plants, and as such prefer a more humid environment. This being said, the base and roots of your dieffenbachia are susceptible to rot caused by overwatering. Let soil mostly dry out between waterings, and your dieffenbachia should not experience root rot. Like all houseplants, if you neglect your dieffenbachia too long though, it will wilt and die from underwatering, so don’t forget about it and don’t get too paranoid about overwatering. Like all houseplants, you will need to supply fertilizer to your dieffenbachia. A timed release foliage houseplant fertilizer can be used as per instructions, or a liquid fertilizer can be applied when watering once every two to four weeks. Dieffenbachias should be fed during spring through fall. Another thing to consider, especially if you are a dieffenbachia lover in more extreme climates, is that these particular houseplants do not tolerate extreme cold well. During the winter months, be careful about drafts from windows and doors, which can adversely impact your dieffenbachia. So, you’ve now kept one of these prime examples of foliage houseplant alive for a while, kept all nearby creatures from snacking on it, and now you’ve decided they’re like a brand name potato chip. You can’t have just one. Here’s how to get another one. Before I get into propagation, there is one thing I should mention. Any time you work with this plant, especially cutting it, you should thoroughly wash your hands and any surfaces which have come into contact with the cut parts. The easiest way to propagate your dieffenbachia is by air layering. This method involves making a cut in the stem, and applying rooting hormone to the cut. Moist peat or coir is then applied around the stem cut, and is held in place with plastic and twist ties. Once roots are visible near the cut, cut the dieffenbachia stem below the newly formed root ball and plant as normal. Enjoy the looks of this wonderful plant, and take care to keep it safe from pets and kids, and keep pets and kids safe from it. Justin Card is the principal author of the Gardening in Boxes blog, which discusses container gardening and houseplants. How to Read a Knitting Pattern

Saturday, April 19th, 2008

By Megan Kutchman Knitting patterns are, for the most part, pretty straightforward. This article is designed to break down and define each section of a knitting pattern so you’ll know what information to expect in what section. Not all patterns follow these guidelines, but most do. Usually the page will start off with a title and photo of the finished product. These are standard and self explanatory. Now on to the juicy stuff: Skill LevelEasy, Medium, Hard or Beginner, Intermediate, Advanced are examples of the information listed here. A quick glance here is how to tell if a pattern is within your skill level. Here are a few examples of what kind of projects you might find in each skill level: Easy/Beginner You’ll probably find a lot of scarves here, as well as potholders, place mats, handbags, some afghans and even a few sweaters. Medium/Intermediate Stocking caps, cable knitted scarves and sweaters, afghans with alternating stitch patterns and most knitted tops fall under this skill level. Hard/Advanced Generally, if an item has a very intricate stitch pattern, it’s likely to be in the Hard category. Knitting pictures and designs would definitely be a more advanced undertaking, as would any type of knitting that requires a lot of shaping. Sizes, Finished Measurements Generally the main size is listed in normal font with all other sizes in parentheses. Example: S(M, L). When you read the knitting instructions further down in the pattern, the first set will apply to the main size, with adjusted instructions for other sizes in parentheses. Also in this section you should see total finished measurements for this project. Materials Any thorough pattern will list in detail what materials you’ll need to complete the project. -Yarn: Since yarn weights vary by type, look for patterns listing yarn in length, that way you can substitute a yarn and still know how much to get.-Needle Size: You should find information on the needles and needle sizes used to complete this pattern.-Miscellaneous Supplies: If you need stitch markers, cable needles or any other miscellaneous supplies, the pattern should list these here as well. Gauge The gauge section should read something like this: 10 sts + 10 rows = 4″ in Stockinette. This information is what you’ll use to check your gauge. Pattern This is where the actual knitting begins. The pattern tells you what stitches to use in what sequence to create the project named at the top of the page. A complete pattern will also include a list of the abbreviations used, but in some cases, it’s assumed everyone knows what those abbreviations mean. Even advanced knitters have trouble with this sometimes. Some Important Points to Remember When following any pattern, it is imperative that you:-Test your gauge before starting. There’s nothing worse than getting an hour into a project to find it’s 6 inches too narrow because your yarn is a smaller weight than the pattern calls for.-Buy all the yarn for the project at the same time. Dyed yarns have “dye lots” and it’s important to get all of your yarn for one project from the same dye lot. If you don’t, you have a good chance of getting different shades of the same color throughout your knitting.-Take a break if you’re frustrated, as you’re sure to be at some point. Knitting is a fun and relaxing hobby, don’t let it turn into a chore to get that afghan or poncho finished! Megan Kutchman owns a retail knitting site, http://www.faknitic.com. IT Marketing: Using Testimonials

Wednesday, April 16th, 2008

By Joshua Feinberg In IT marketing, testimonials can be a great selling point for your business. In this article, you’ll learn how to use testimonials to your fullest advantage. Testimonials Give You Credibility If you want to have believable, credible testimonials, they have to be real: fully attributed with first name, last name, job title, company name, and at the absolute minimum, a city and state. It shows your prospective clients that you mean business-you’re not messing around and these testimonies are real. People are a lot more apt to believe your other clients than they are to believe the claims that you make. People believe third parties who don’t have a vested interest in this much more than they’re going to believe your own IT marketing and sales copy. What Testimonials Should Include You want strong benefits-focused testimonials written on your clients’ letterhead discussing how your company has helped them over the years. You want specific examples that talk about the return on investment, how reliable and dependable your company has been, what kind of response time you generally show, that you’ll always be there for emergencies, that you understand their business needs, and that you work within their budget and time constraints. IT Marketing: Getting Testimonials How do you get your clients to do this? o Interview them and guide them with certain questions in whatever direction you want to take them. o Draft suggested testimonials and e-mail it to them. You can ask them to review it, edit it, and approve it. And have your clients put it on their letterhead and sign off on it. o Put together five or six suggested bullet points for them to address in their testimonial (like a survey). o Take clients out to lunch or breakfast and interview them. Jot down some notes and go back to your office, type it up, email it to them and ask them if they could just review whether it accurately reflects your conversation. If they feel it does, ask them to put that on their letterhead and sign it so you can put it in your file and use it for marketing purposes as a testimonial. Make it easy for them and they’ll likely give you the IT marketing testimonials you need. The Bottom Line on IT Marketing Getting testimonials from your current clients can help greatly with your IT marketing. Make it easy for your clients to provide you with the testimonials you need to help your prospects gain trust in you. Copyright MMI-MMVI, Computer Consulting Blog. Prescription Drug Stores

Monday, April 14th, 2008

By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Damian_Sofsian] Damian Sofsian Drug stores are shops which sell medication. Drugs are basically of two types, prescription drugs, and over-the-counter drugs. Over-the-counter drugs do not need a prescription from a qualified doctor. Prescription drugs should be provided only by a qualified and registered pharmacist. These days, some drug manufacturing companies like Pfizer are providing discount card programs for senior citizens who do not have insurance and cannot afford costly medications. Under this program, these people can buy any Pfizer drugs at a rate of $15 per prescription per month. Lower Your Cholesterol With Guggul

Thursday, April 10th, 2008

By Michael Flowers The Indian herb Guggul, is a standardized extract from the mukul myrrh (Commiphora mukul) tree, which is native to India. Rresearch has shown that by increasing the breakdown of LDL cholesterol in the liver, it can lower LDL cholesterol levels by 25-35%. It can also lower total cholesterol by 14-27%, triglycerides by 22-30%, and increase HDL cholesterol by approximately 20%. Another study found that the steroid guggulsterone, the active agent in the extract, blocks the activity of the farnesoid X receptor (FXR) on cells. FXR helps regulate cholesterol by affecting bile acids, which are produced from cholesterol and released by the liver. Earlier this year, a study by researchers in the United States found that the herb can also help people with osteoporosis. They suggested it can reduce pain, stiffness, and help people with the condition to walk more easily. The resin or sap of the tree has been used in India and other parts of the east for centuries. Uses include treating rheumatoid arthritis, cardiovascular disease, obesity and inflammation. India officially approved the plant as a lipid lowering drug in the 1980’s. Studies indicate that the product should not be taken with blood thinners without the consent of a medical professional. The product is now widely available for use in the States. You should always consult your medical professional before taking herbs or supplements, especially if you have health related issues.
